Former Boeing whistleblower, John Barnett, found dead

John Barnett, who previously raised concerns about the safety of Boeing's planes, was found dead during a break in depositions against the company

John Barnett, a former Boeing employee known for raising concerns about the firm's production standards, has been found dead in the US. Barnett, who was 45 at the time of his death, did not work for Boeing directly but for Spirit AeroSystems, a major supplier to Boeing.

Barnett had raised concerns about the quality of Boeing's 737 Max aircraft

Barnett had previously raised concerns about the safety of Boeing's planes, including the 737 Max. In a 2019 complaint filed with the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Barnett alleged that Boeing had ignored his concerns about manufacturing flaws and pressured him to sign off on faulty work.

The 737 Max was involved in two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019, which killed a total of 346 people. The crashes led to the aircraft being grounded worldwide for more than a year. Boeing has since made changes to the 737 Max's design and production process in response to the crashes.

Barnett's death is being investigated

The circumstances surrounding Barnett's death are still under investigation. The Charleston County Coroner's Office has ruled Barnett's death a suicide. However, Barnett's family has raised concerns about the circumstances of his death, saying they do not believe he would have taken his own life.
